My Story Of Abuse

i'm new to this board and just wanted to share my story with everyone here.

i used to live in arizona.

i was very shy and quiet when i was younger.

Every time I read another account such as yours it fills me with such sadness that yet another innocent childhood has been tainted by those who profess to be Christians and hide their evil acts behind the skirts of their protective organisation. I really hope that you will find some comfort amongst those who post here and find some peace at last in your life. You deserve to find some happiness and give yourself the chance to move forward, you will never forget the things that have happened to you but I sincerely hope that you find a way to overcome the pain and not let it ruin the rest of your life.

Why I'm Still Angry & Benefit from Simon's ...

some on this board have stated that many here are bitter and need to move on from criticizing the wtbs, even implying that there was something wrong with the mental state of ones who continue in their attacks of jws.

this following seemed to me to hit the nail on the head as to why so many of us stay involved long after weve left the borg.

also, even the watchtower has stated something like, why dont people just leave, why do they have to publicly attack jws?

How can you move on from criticizing them when they still attempt to have an influence on your life?

Recently my husband was in conversation with a witness, my husband is neither da'd or df'd yet no longer considers himself part of their organisation. This witness was encouraging him to come along to a meeting. Husband pointed out that I would probably divorce him (I am da'd) yet this fact did not deter them. They said that hubby should wait till I go to work on a Sunday morning or do an evening shift and then sneak out without me knowing. Apparently "SHE WOULD NEVER KNOW!"

That is the sort of thing that makes me angry, encouraging deceit and lying, especially as the children would have to be involved in this scheme. It makes you wonder how some of these people sleep at night. So much for the literature I remember reading that said JWs and their religion do not split up families.

Starting College -- HOORAY for ME!!!

i am just so excited.

earlier this week i applied for admittance to my local community college and today i registered for my first class!.

(one class for the summer session to see how this college stuff plays out.).

Outnfree - you go for it! Just coming to the end of my college course now, only 3 weeks to go until my exams.... that's why I have been very quiet on the board lately - head always in the books! And then its off to uni in September for 4 years hard slog.

Hope it goes really well for you and you get what you want out of it! (And dont forget an apple for the teacher on your first day!)

Hello to termite 35 - yes, I'm currently in Devon but moving up to Somerset in the summer, as soon as I can sort myself out with a house (easier said than done....) Won't be near the coast though, trying to get to Yeovil/Taunton/Wellington/Wells area.

How do you handle the childrens Questions?

how did you handle the childrens questions when you left he borg??.

were they old enough to understand, or young?.

if older - did they see the same things occuring as you did??.

Good question.... When we left it was very confusing for the children. I think children tend to grow up thinking that mums and dads are perfect and are always right about everything (well, in our house at least!!) and when you have to admit to them that you have been misled it can be very difficult for them to understand. I think we handled it as well as it could be, bearing in mind our kids were all 8 years old and under, we tried to reason with them - using the Bible where we could, to point out errors that they had made. We explained that we felt that no one religion should claim 'exclusive rights to God' and that each religion (within reason...) had its good points. We tried to undo the damage and indoctrination and helped them reason over things.

I remember my small son asking 'Why dont we go to the Kingdom Hall anymore?' and I simply stated that we dont believe the same things as they do anymore, this satisfied him and that was that.

I also remember my eldest daughter being very concerned over shunning and I had to go into detail with her the reasons why they choose to do this, she came to the conclusion that they are 'stupid people who act like children'. She also said 'that is not a very Christian thing to do is it?' Talk about knocking the nail right on the head! Children are so perceptive!!

In think above all though, it is important to be honest with the children, I believe they were mislead enough in the KHall without carrying it on when you leave. They ask me now whether there is a God at all and I answer them honestly - I don't know, it's one of lifes biggest mysteries..... and they seem happy with that for now.

Survey - How many in Medical Field??

just curiosity here... how many of us here are in the medical field?

i seem to find alot of us are or were at some point.

so i thought a survey would be in order.. also, if you are in a medical field - why did you choose it??.

individuals wife puts up hand - me! me!

Currently I am a nursing auxiliary in my local hospital and loving every minute of it. Moving on in September to start university to become a 'real' nurse - can't wait. I could never of dreamt of doing this when I was a JW, all that about 'putting the Kingdom first' always meant that what I REALLY wanted to do - nurse - was put on the back burner. I always felt that medical professions were discouraged in the JWs because of the unsocial hours, having to miss meetings etc, and because of the blood issue. I can only think of one JW who was involved in a caring professions and sometimes used to miss meetings due to night shifts, she was thought of as spiritually weak because of this.

My point of view now is - it is better to try and help people in this world NOW by giving them care, attention and treatment rather than sit around talking about when God will put things right. I believe that actions speak louder than words.

Very, very illegal - this is discrimination, pure and simple. I suppose no-one has noticed their rule because they most probably don't need to advertise for staff as they have enough 'volunteers' to help them out, can you imagine what would happen if they put an ad in the situations vacant column saying 'only JWs need apply'?! They would be in BIG trouble. And they aren't going to advertise in Job Centres which would immediately pick up on the discrimination.

It makes me wonder about the training these 'volunteers' receive - do they have health and safety training, manual handling, etc, etc. Bet they don't.

And what about meeting nights? Do they sit on their commodes pressing their buzzers for dear life with no-one to get them back into bed because the 'volunteers' are all at the meetings?

Seems to me to just be another money making scheme.

OLD WT Books

i've discovered a bunch of old wt books that i had in boxes.

these books go back a ways.

i found truth books, your word is a lamp..", the paradise book, and many others.

Kept a few, had a hearty bonfire with the rest... felt very satisfying. Although now, looking back, I wish I had kept them, they are handy for referencing, the CD Roms are OK but they lack the illustrations.

I was tempted to dump them all outside the KH door but then they may have been recycled back into the ministry and I wouldnt have wanted to be responsible for that... ditto with charity shops.

No, I suggest keeping them as a reminder or for referencing or shred them.
